BUSIA - Queues of cargo trucks continue to pile up at the Busia border as drivers await their COVID-19 test results before continuing with their journey.  Media reports have shown traffic queues going for miles on both sides of the border, both inside Uganda and Kenya.

Some drivers have reportedly been held up at the border for up to four days as they await their test result before being allowed to continue.

Benson Wabwire, health in charge at Busia Border, called for patience seeing as the instant testing kits, promised by the government, have not yet been delivered to them.

The situation is made worse by the chaos at the Malaba border crossing, where hundreds of Kenyan truck drivers have, since Thursday, blocked the road to Malaba customs post on the Kenyan side of the border.

As a result, traffic on the Ugandan side was diverted to the Busia crossing, putting more stress on the already loaded system.

President Yoweri Museveni, last week, directed that no truck driver would be let into the country without registering a negative result for COVID-19.
