Frogwares, the Ukraine-based adventure game developer best known for its series of games and last year's The Sinking City, is working on a new title that will explore the origins of the popular fictional detective. Titled Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One, the game is heading to PC as well as current and next-gen consoles next year.

The open-world title will put players in the shoes of a 21-year-old Sherlock Holmes, exploring how he became the world’s greatest detective. The studio says to expect an arrogant depiction of the young genius, and instead of John Watson, there is now a different "Jon" that will serve as the other half. There will be fistfights too, where Holmes will be able to pick out weaknesses on enemies to win fights.

Here's how the developer describes the setting:

Sherlock Holmes was a brilliant rebel itching to prove himself. When an old wound compels him back to the Mediterranean shore where his mother died, it seems like the perfect opportunity to do just that—but beneath the vibrant urban veneer of the island, the rhythm of island life strikes a more ominous beat. Crime and corruption, a twisted sense of justice and morality... These are just a few stumbling-blocks in Sherlock’s quest for truth.

Frogwares hasn't narrowed down the release window any further other than saying Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One will arrive sometime in 2021. The game will be available on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG, as well as Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
