The nose of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been revealed during a video presentation with global media overnight.
The official photo was shown a fortnight after images of the car – inside and out – appeared on Instagram after a prototype was parked in what appeared to be a junk yard.
The official image of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class appeared on a screen for a few seconds during a video conference with the chairman of the company, Ola Källenius, and international media.
Although the company did not go into detail about the new model, Mr Källenius confirmed it would go into production this year.
The spy photos from a fortnight ago showed the sleek lines of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class and its hi-tech interior, which had large tablet-style touchscreens and what appeared to be provision for a large 3D heads-up display.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class limousine is the flagship of the range and, customarily, the technology leader.
During the video presentation, Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius said the new S-Class will be "a technological tour de force".
"Our brightest minds and most creative people are (working) with it, inventing what future technologies will be," said Mr Källenius.
"I drove a preproduction model and it’s amazing," he said. "We drove it around, even at high speed on the autobahn. Very serene and quiet ride. The predecessor set the bar high but the new S-Class will be special."
Representatives for Mercedes-Benz Australia declined to comment on local showroom arrival timing.
However, based on previous model lifecycle timings, CarAdvice believes the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be on sale in Australia in the first half of 2021.
