The Chase fans astonished as player Shirley plans to rent gentleman companion with winnings
by Verity Sulway, https://www.mirror.co.uk/authors/verity-sulway/The Chase fans were baffled by contestant Shirley's graphically honest admission about what she would spend her prize money on.
The star revealed she used to travel a lot with her late husband, and she would like to travel again in the future but did not want to go alone.
Therefore, she giggled, she hoped to "rent a chap" to bring with her, to help pour her cocktails and carry her luggage.
Host Bradley Walsh asked Shirley: "If you were to win some money today, what would you do with it?"
"My husband and I used to travel a lot," replied Shirley.
"We loved travelling, and now I'm alone I find it difficult, so I'm going to rent a chap to take along with me, carry my baggage, pour my gin and tonic, and perhaps dance with me in the evening."
The shocked audience giggled and Bradley was speechless for a moment, before quipping: "Do you know what Shirley, this is what I'm going to do. "
Shirley asked: "Are you going to volunteer?"
"Erm, no," replied Bradley.
"Shirley I'm going to start a company called 'rent a chap', the new RAC. Rent a chap. That's what we are going to do. I'll find you someone."
"I'll do the vetting!" joked Shirley.
She went on to reveal she was already eyeing up one of the chasers for her rented chap - but it was not Mark Labbett, who she was playing against.
Instead, Shirley has a crush on Shaun Wallace, AKA The Dark Destroyer, and Mark joked "I'll get my coat then!"
"He's up for rent, too!" said Bradley of Sean.
One viewer tweeted: "Shirley wants a gigolo #TheChase ".
"Shirley is a bloody good egg #TheChase " added another.
While a third likened Shirley to the elderly version of Rose in the Titanic film, posting a meme of the character saying "It's been 84 years".
Kind-hearted Volunteer Shirley has previously worked as a nurse and as a secretary, but for the last 20 years she has helped drive elderly people to things like hospital appointments, and helps people fill in their benefits application forms.
