Border Patrol Agents Apprehend Driver Following Vehicle Pursuit

by

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in the Yuma Sector arrested a driver who took off on foot following a vehicle pursuit on Thursday.

A breach in an area of border wall just west of San Luis, Arizona, was reported by private security contractors. According to a CBP press release, a group of individuals appeared to be preparing to illegally cross the border into the United States.

Border Patrol agents identified a white Ford F-350 that failed to yield to a traffic stop. The vehicle swerved toward a Border Patrol vehicle in an effort to force the Border Patrol vehicle off the road. Agents pursued the truck, which struck a fence a short distance later. After the collision, the driver attempted to abscond on foot but was apprehended by CBP agents. Agents found 1.3 grams of methamphetamine in the driver's possession. The driver was a 24-year-old U.S. citizen, a male with a criminal record of controlled substance possession and alien smuggling.

Agents also stopped a second Ford white F-250 that stopped without incident. The driver of the second truck was a 38-year-old male U.S. citizen.

Both vehicles and the controlled substance were seized.
