Downs Star’s Deal To Follow Pitso Announcement

by

Mamelodi Sundowns are understood to be preparing another new contract, but this time they will be tying up the finer details of a key player.

The Brazilians last week confirmed that coach Pitso Mosimane had entered into a four-year deal agreement to keep him at Chloorkop beyond the current 2019/20 season to continue his unprecedented success.

Despite chairman Patrice Motsepe revealing that Sundowns were targeting a few more players to beef up what is already a strong team, the club is also determined to ensure the long-term futures of their best and current players.

One such footballer is utility player Thapelo Morena, who is contracted to Downs until June 2021, but the Siya crew has established that the two parties will soon get the ball rolling on discussions over a new deal.

Reports earlier this year suggested that Morena, who is recovering from a freak ankle injury he sustained three months ago, had caught the eye of clubs in Spain and Italy, but there was no confirmation of Downs being formally approached.

It makes sense that the club would want to hold on to such a key player instead of risking him being allowed to sign a pre-contract in January 2021 and walking out of Chloorkop a free agent after four years of making him the player he is today.

Talks over a new contract while he is still nursing an injury also speaks to how highly the club regards Morena, who had recently made his way back into the Bafana Bafana squad.
