Mumbai: Continuing with the spurt in the spread of coronavirus cases in the Mira Bhayandar area, the metropolitan satellite township reported 34 new COVID-19 positive cases on Monday while two patients succumbed to the infection.

With this, the total number of positive patients in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) stands at 533 while the death toll mounts to 17.

Meanwhile, the MBMC has decided to allow shops selling construction materials and opticals from Wednesday. This will be in addition to the earlier order allowing the opening of electrical appliances repairing stores, hardware stores and puncture shops, MBMC commissioner Chandrakant Dange told Mirror Online on Monday.

He said that the two deaths were reported from one each at Themba Hospital in Bhayandar (West) and another hospital in Mumbai where the COVID-19 positive patients had been admitted for treatment.

Of the 34 positive cases on Monday, 12 patients are contacts of earlier positive cases while the rest were isolated cases. The cases were scattered across the municipal corporation area while a lesser number of cases had been reported from the hotspots.

So far, 318 persons have recovered from the infection while the number of active cases now stands at 198.
