Fortnite adds Doomsday countdown timer to tease beginning of Season 3

by

The next season of Fortnite is nearly upon us, and Epic Games has started building up to it with an ominous countdown.

The current season of Fortnite has been going on for longer than originally planned. Season 3 was supposed to begin around the end of April, but Epic Games chose to extend Season 2 for about a month.

Some players have grown tired of how long this season has been, but Season 3 is now right around the corner and the game itself has already begun to tease it.

Over the weekend, a countdown timer was added, and it can be spotted on the main home screen and on the desk in Midas’ office.

It’s already been deduced that the timer will end this Saturday on 30 March, about a week before Season 2 is supposed to end.

This seems to suggest that something major is going to happen to conclude the season before the next one starts.

It’s generally believed that it has something to do with the doomsday device that can be seen in the background of the office. Players have noticed that, as the weeks have gone by, new tubes that can be found across the menus have been added, which all connect to the device.

The theory is that the timer is counting down to the device exploding, which will cause parts of the game’s map to become flooded.

This would match up with what a lot of Fortnite dataminers have uncovered. Last month, swimming animations were found, implying that players will be able to go underwater, which will be needed if the map does become partly submerged.

Fortnite is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Switch, iOS, and Android devices.
