GP Austria still not final: 'We are still evaluating the safety plan'

by

For some time now everyone has been assuming that the season will start on July 5th, but these races have still not been officially confirmed either.

Still no confirmation

"We are still busy evaluating the safety plan", says Health Minister Rudolf Anschober in a press conference today according to AD.nl. Confirmation of the start of the season is therefore still a matter of time away.

About two weeks ago the news came out that the organization of the Grand Prix had sent a health plan to the ministry. This plan contains all the measures that will be in force on the circuit during the race weekends. All this of course to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Green light

It is expected that the health plan will not be accepted immediately, but some minor adjustments will have to be made first. The chance that the races will get the green light after that seems pretty big. Formula 4 is already being tested on the track and other sports such as the Austrian Bundesliga and professional tennis will be resumed soon.

The region in which the circuit is located, Styria, has relatively few infections with COVID-19. The Zeltweg airport is also very close to the circuit, so the teams in Austria don't have to travel much. It has also been announced that the F1 teams are only allowed to bring 80 people per closed race-weekend.
