A Derbyshire man claims he was sworn at and abused for attempting to adhere to social distancing rules.

In a post on the community Facebook page Spotted Belper, he claims he was walking with his father when the incident took place.

His post, which has been edited to take out the swear words, reads: “Today I got called a **** on my walk because I politely told a man I couldn't walk past him as we weren’t two metres apart.

“I understand that you can’t always stay 100% socially distanced but we are trying to do our best.

“Calling me and my dad ‘weird p****s’ and nasty words just isn’t nice (or fair for that matter) when all we are trying to do is follow the government guidelines.

“What this man doesn’t know is that my Dad has underlying health issues and if he got this virus, who knows what would happen?

“I understand that people now seem to not give a **** or have ‘had enough’ of this lockdown but can you please respect people’s boundaries and show a bit of kindness?

“That’s all anyone needs right now!”

The post was put online on May 21 and it is not known where in Belper the incident took place.

More than 200 people have reacted and there are almost 90 replies to what has been said.

One person called it “a total lack of respect” while another posted how there was “no need for this kind of behaviour at all”.
