Details of the online registration system for calculated grades for this year's Leaving Certificate students have been announced.

The portal opens tomorrow morning at 10am and closes at 10pm on Thursday night.

All Leaving Certificate students, including those sitting the Leaving Certificate Applied and Leaving Certificate Vocational programmes, are required to register.

Students are also required to confirm the level at which they intend to sit each of their subjects, and if they wish they can switch to a lower level.

The address is gov.ie/leavingcertificate. Students will need to provide their examination and PPS numbers, as well as email and phone contact details.

Once registered, they will be asked to opt-in to the calculated grades system.

The Department of Education says every school has been sent information on the gov.ie/leavingcertificate portal, and how to register, and will be asked to circulate the information to students and to parents and guardians.

Schools have been asked to assist any student who may need help getting access online.

The Department says there will be helpline support from midday tomorrow.

Minister for Education Joe McHugh has urged all students to register and to do so promptly.

He said it was a tight timeframe and every student needed to register "so that the new system can operate smoothly".

61,000 students were due to sit their Leaving Certificate exams this year.

They include 58,000 students following the Leaving Certificate (established) or Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme, as well as 3,000 studying the Leaving Certificate Applied course.
