Boxes of toothpaste and shaving gel were stolen

Mick, 57, from Blantyre, was left gutted after finding the mess in his motor on Ann Street, Burnbank, Hamilton this morning as he prepared to drive to a wholesaler for more supplies.

The worker at Blantyre Miners Welfare group has been delivering goods and meals to a number of hospitals, care homes and hospices as part of his volunteering with the Blantyre Official Coronavirus Support group.

The team of volunteers have already donated toiletries to Hairmyres Hospital, Uddingston Hospital, Kilbryde Hospice, and a number of nursing homes in the area.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, he said: "I'm really disappointed. Two bags of toiletries were stolen. It's just disappointing for it to happen.

"I'm not sure if they were trying to start the car or disable the alarm but it was in a state this morning.

"But no one was hurt and that is the main thing."

Cops traced the nicked supplies which were returned to Mick this afternoon after the bags had been dumped nearby.

But Mick, who has helped in a fundraising drive by the BUCS group which has raised £1,638, revealed the heartless act has only increased the generosity and community spirit in his local area.

And his post about the break-in even prompted one woman from Aberdeen to book his car in for a repair all expenses paid.

He said: "People have been wanting to repair my car, but it seems fine.

"One woman booked my car into the garage, and an alarm company got in touch wanting to fit new systems into my car and house. But I didn't take any of it.

"The local businesses have been brilliant in donating money.

"It's all about helping the community, the generosity and kindness has been tremendous."

Mick shared the shocking theft on Facebook as he wrote: "This was my car this morning. Why would anyone do this?

"They stole Toiletries that was going to the Hospital this morning, There are no words."

And social media users were horrified by the news as they offered their support.

One wrote: This is disgusting, so sad to hear this after all the good things you do"

Another said: "Mick, whatever they stole inbox me with how much money to replace and I’ll send it to you"

While a third replied: "Can’t believe how low some people go!!! It’s awful. Hope you are ok."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report around 6.40am on Monday May 25, 2020, that items had been stolen from a car on Ann Street, Hamilton overnight.

"The items were recovered and enquiries are ongoing."
