IGP Kashmir Seeks Report On Complaint Against Policemen

Srinagar: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar on Monday sought report from a senior officer over the complaint of alleged highhandedness by policemen posted in city.

In a statement issued here today, a police spokesperson said that IGP Kumar took a stock of the law and order situation in Kashmir and appreciated the work done by police and central forces in ensuring the government directions over the Covid-19 control are implemented in letter and spirit.

Kumar, the police spokesperson said also issued strict directions to ensure that all Covid-19 frontline workers are facilitated properly. He also urged the doctors and paramedics to cooperate with policemen on the ground.

“The IGP took strong notice of complaint appearing in some media circles about police personnel while discharging their duties on the road. He instructed senior officer to submit a factual report regarding the same,” the police spokesperson said, without divulging the details of complaint.

“It was also reiterated  that doctors, paramedics and police are jointly combating Covid-19 and whatever incident has taken place, we  shall look into them, conduct impartial enquiry and take due action,” he added.

IGP Kashmir, as per the official spokesperson also said that that we all frontline workers shall ensure that persons with “vested interests” shall not be allowed to misuse any situation to vitiate the atmosphere and hamper the immensely important work being done by all Covid warriors together.

Pertinently, IGP’s statement comes in wake of a series of assaults on the frontline workers by the government forces across the Valley.

In the two recent incidents, policemen thrashed two senior doctors in Budshah Chowk and Hawal areas of this capital city. While Dr Shabir Ahmad Mir sustained a fracture in his finger due to alleged manhandling by cops at Budshah Chowk, senior intervention cardiologist Dr Syed Maqbool was detained at police station Zadibal and threatened by a police officer not to disclose his location with anyone. The back to back incidents have triggered outrage among the medical fraternity.
