The Motorola razr's successor may come with a Snapdragon 765, 8GB of RAM
by João CarrasqueiraLenovo-owned Motorola made some pretty big waves with the announcement of the foldable razr phone last year, but the device ended up being overshadowed by Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip, which is slightly cheaper and has generally better hardware. A few months ago, it was suggested that a 5G variant of the razr may be on the way, and according to a new report from XDA-Developers, 5G support isn't all that will be new in the upcoming razr successor.
According to the report, Motorola will be replacing the Snapdragon 710 on the current razr model with a Snapdragon 765, which would not only bring 5G support, but a significant performance boost as well. The rest of the internals will reportedly get a boost as well, bumping the RAM from 6GB to 8GB, and doubling the internal storage to 256GB.
While the number of cameras doesn't seem to be changing, the 16MP rear camera will apparently be replaced by a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, and the measly 5MP selfie camera will make way for a 20MP one. This should a significant upgrade, especially combined with the upgraded image processor of the Snapdragon 765. As far as the displays go, it seems like they will stay the same, which may still bring about durability problems.
The report indicates that the phone is planned for a release in China and North America, and it's currently unclear whether it will come to other markets. There's also no indication of price, but with Samsung reportedly working on one of the cheapest foldables we've seen so far, it will be interesting if Motorola can make the razr successor a compelling alternative.
