Grady Diangana has been getting rave reviews this season on loan with former Hammers boss Slaven Bilic

West Ham youngster Grady Diangana has flourished on his loan spell at West Bromwich Albion and is earning plaudits left, right and centre.

Despite the latter part of his season being interrupted by a couple of injuries, the Hammers winger has been very impressive on loan at the Hawthorns for Slaven Bilic’s table toppers.

The 22-year-old has scored five and assisted six goals so far this season, earned his first call up to the England under-21s squad and is expected to be a key player when the Championship does return as the Baggies resume their quest for automatic promotion.

David Moyes was tempted to bring Diangana back to the club in January after his exploits this season but a hamstring problem put a halt to that. Prior to his injury, West Brom were willing to pay West Ham £3million to keep Diangana at the club for the rest of the season despite him having penned a 12-month loan.

The academy graduate will remain with the Baggies until the Championship season is complete as former Hammers boss Bilic targets promotion.

On Sky Sports’ Football Show, a panel of guests and pundits discussed Diangana’s season in detail and how impressive he has been.

Keith Andrews said of the winger: “I've been very impressed right from the off. His move happened quite late in the window last summer and I think that was much to do with the fact there was so much interest and maybe whether West Ham really wanted him to go.

“As a young player in pre-season you get minutes because there are lots of games and he undoubtedly impressed after signing a six-year contract.

“He's been fantastic and the one thing he does is get them up the pitch quickly. He's got electric pace, whereas last year they were having to be very precise in how they built up play. Now they've got a more dynamic team and in him in particular they've got raw pace.”

Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie echoed the comments of Andrews in his assessment on Diangana this season.

“You look at the stature of player they have there and I think that ticks all the boxes for Grady, West Ham and West Brom. When you've got that blend of players it's only going to bring him on. I had a good chat with Gareth Barry about him and he says that he'll go on and play at the top.

“They adore him at West Brom and I think they'd love to keep hold of him but the situation with West Brom potentially going up and West Ham potentially going down, he could see himself back in the Championship.

West Ham during the break

“He's been magnificent, easy on the eye and a massive plus point for West Brom.”

Manuel Pellegrini handed Diangana a first team debut in the 9-0 rout over Macclesfield Town in the Carabao Cup last season and the winger established himself as a first team player quickly.

Pellegrini saw his talent and the club did too as Diangana put pen to paper on a six-year contract in January 2019 after making 15 first team appearances having broken through from the academy setup.

Diangana is set to play a key role in David Moyes’ team next season as the manager looks to bring down the average age of his squad. What division that will be in remains to be seen as the Hammers resume their battle against the drop, while the Baggies are gunning for promotion to the top flight.
