A man has admitted to murdering a woman hours after matching with her on Tinder, according to reports.

Ethan Robert Hunsaker, 24, called police and confessed to killing a 25-year-old, US authorities say.

Officers arrived at the residential address in Layton, Utah, at around 3.20am on Saturday where they found the woman lying on the floor with 'five to ten' stab wounds to her torso.

Layton City Police arrested Hunsaker at the scene without incident.

According to an arrest warrant, Hunsaker matched with the woman on Tinder on the same night she was killed.

Their tragic date started at 9pm on Saturday when the suspect picked the woman up from her home and brought her to a local bar.

They drank together at that location for a short time before going back to Hunsaker's apartment where they had 'intimate relations', according to a police cause statement.

“Ethan woke up with the victim laying on his left arm as they were cuddling or spooning,” the statement read.

“Ethan stated he choked the victim as hard as he could for about one minute. Ethan stated she was fighting him and was trying to pull his arms away from her neck.

"There are marks on Ethan’s arms, neck, and shoulder area supporting the fight between the two. Ethan then got up and went to the kitchen area of his home.

"Ethan grabbed a spring assisted pocket knife that had about a four-inch blade.”

Police say they are still investigating a motive for the crime but say that it appeared to be 'unprovoked'.

"During the recorded 911 call, Ethan told dispatchers that he had just killed someone,” the statement said.

“While officers were responding to Ethan’s residence, Ethan asked dispatchers to tell the officers to kill him.”

The probable cause statement also said that the suspect had mental health issues.

It read: "Ethan has recently thought of ways to kill and kidnap others.

"He stated the date was a normal date and there had been no argument with the victim that would cause him to kill her.

"Also expressed the desire to have police kill him. For the safety of the public, a no bail is requested.”

Hunsaker is currently being held at a local jail on once count of first-degree murder.
