Police launch manhunt after attempted rape of woman in Dunfermline park

A woman was followed by the man before he pushed her to the ground.

A man pushed a woman to the ground and attempted to rape her while she was walking through a park in Fife.

Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses following the assault in Pittencrieff Park in Dunfermline.

Around 6.20pm yesterday, May 24, the woman was walking when she was followed by a man who appeared from neighbouring Pittencrieff Street.

He then pushed her to the ground and the woman struggled with him before he ran off in the direction of Peacock Sanctuary.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

The suspect is described as approximately 30 to 40-years-old, average build, between 5ft 7in to 5ft 9in tall with short dark hair.

He was wearing black round glasses, dark clothing and dark running shoes.

Detective Inspector Kelly McEwan, based at Glenrothes, said: "The woman wasn't seriously injured in this attack but she is extremely shaken and upset.

"We're appealing to anyone who may recognise the description of the man or saw someone similar to that description in or around the park on Sunday morning to contact us."
