More Troubles For AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal: Tanker Owners Claim He Collected Bribes Up To Rs 60 Lakh A Month
by Swarajya StaffAam Aadmi Party MLA Prakash Jarwal has been caught up in yet another controversy. The latest investigations suggest that Jarwal, MLA from Deoli constituency in the capital, allegedly received around Rs 60 lakh per month bribes from the water tanker owners, reports Times of India.
The report further states that around 20 water tanker owners have come forward to claim that the AAP MLA had asked them to pay money, with four of them testifying before a magistrate alleging that they had paid Rs 20,000 to get clear their files and Rs 500 for each round of supply. The total amount turns out to be around Rs 60 lakh.
Moreover, the tanker owners told that on failing to make payments, they were prevented from supplying in the area. Additionally, they were they also barred from filling waters from Delhi Jal Board (DJB) office.
The alleged involvement of the AAP MLA came to light after one Dr Rajinder Singh (52) had committed suicide by hanging himself on 18 April. He was a private practitioner in Durgapuri area in south Delhi and was also involved in supply of Delhi Jal Board water through tankers since 2007. He had held Jarwal responsible in his suicide note, following which police had registered a case against the legislator on charges of extortion and abetment to suicide.
It was reported that Singh had paid Rs 10 lakh to Jarwal’s aide Kapil before having a dispute with Jarwal over the refusal to make further payments. The details of the payment made to Jarwal was submitted by the deceased doctor’s family members before the magistrate.
The family had claimed that the Jarwal had got Rajinder's tankers removed from water supply service and also prevented clearance of dues from the Jal Board.
