Man Utd target Bournemouth duo as Jadon Sancho and Odion Ighalo alternatives

by

Manchester United have shortlisted Bournemouth’s David Brooks and Josh King as potential alternatives to Jadon Sancho and Odion Ighalo, according to reports.

Sancho remains United’s priority target for the next transfer window, with the board said to be ‘in love’ with the Borussia Dortmund winger.

The Red Devils are also looking for a viable backup for Ighalo, who is set to return to parent club Shanghai Shenhua at the end of this week after his successful loan spell at Old Trafford.

The club are trying to keep the Nigeria international until the end of the Premier League season, but nothing has been finalised.

And according to the Manchester Evening News, Brooks and King are on the shortlist of targets if the club can’t push through deals for Sancho and Ighalo.

United attempted to sign Norwegian striker King on transfer deadline day in January, but weren’t prepared to match the Cherries’ £30 million valuation.

The 28-year-old, who rose through United’s academy, has already played under his compatriot Solskjaer for the reserves team.

Brooks is yet to feature this season after suffering a long-term ankle injury in July, but is set to return if the Premier League resumes next month.

The tricky winger impressed for Eddie Howe’s side last year, scoring seven goals in his debut season for the club.

Schalke’s Rabbi Matondo has been identified as another cheaper alternative to Sancho, whose £120 million price tag may prove too steep in the current financial climate.

Ed Woodward warned that mega-money transfer may be impacted by the coronavirus crisis, possibly forcing the club to pursue cut-price options.
