Man accused of abusing, killing dog in Ouachita Parish

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Authorities have arrested a man accused of animal cruelty in Ouachita Parish.

According to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, it happened on May 24, 2020, in the 1100 block of Owens Road.

According to arrest records, 41-year-old Christopher Gilchrist, of Glenmora, is accused of throwing his dog against a wall and door numerous times, killing it.

Deputies say upon entering the home, they observed a large amount of blood near the entrance and on several pieces of furniture. Deputies say Gilchrist had left prior to their arrival.

Deputies say they also observed the deceased dog in a plastic bag with large amounts of blood on it.

Authorities say they made contact with Gilchrist at Glenwood Regional Medical Center where he was advised of his rights and said he was off his medication and “did not know what to do.”

They say when asked about the dog, Gilchrist stated that he knew he killed his dog and stated that it was because he was bipolar.

Gilchrist was arrested and booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center.
