This is the moment a huge tree went up in flames - scattering ashes across neighbours' gardens - after a waste fire disaster.

A resident had been burning rubbish in a garden when the fire got out of control just before 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday (May 25).

Firefighters were forced to step in at Kelby Close, Northfield when the inferno spread to a conifer tree - sending plumes of grey smoke into the sky.

A concerned neighbour captured the bright orange flames tearing through the huge tree after ashes came raining down into his garden.

A single fire crew from Northfield fire station attended to extinguish the blaze and used hose reel jets to put out the fire.

Fortunately no one was injured in the incident and it has now been dealt with.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "We were called at 1.58pm to Kelby Close, Northfield.

"The Northfield crew are currently in attendance. We were called after a fire spread to a conifer tree. We have two hose reel jets in use.

"Crew has said the occupier was burning rubbish and it got out of control."
