Premier League player makes claim about 'scrapping' West Brom and Leeds United promotion

West Brom news - Sheffield United goalkeeper Simon Moore has sympathy for promotion-chasing teams amid calls to 'scrap' 2019/20 season

West Bromwich Albion would have every right to feel 'really disappointed' if they were denied promotion to the Premier League.

That's the view of Sheffield United goalkeeper Simon Moore, who was part of the Blades squad who went up from the Championship last season.

Albion have been in the top two for the majority of the campaign and trail Leeds United by a point with both sides holding a healthy advantage on the chasing play-off pack.

Championship players were permitted to return to socially distanced training today but Hull City chairman Ehab Allam has written twice to the EFL requesting for the season to be voided.

Moore told the Sheffield Star: "The teams at the top of their leagues will be really disappointed if it was scrapped, having worked so hard to get where they are - particularly the ones trying to get into the Premier League.

"It’s going to be tough financially for many clubs - particularly those further down the football pyramid, who rely on fans. They’re the ones who will take the biggest hit.

"It shows how big an industry football is. It brings a lot of entertainment and talking points.

"The whole world has really missed football. But there are more important things going on in the world - people’s safety is first and foremost."

EFL bosses are reportedly eyeing a return date of June 20 for the Championship with every team having nine fixtures left to play.

The government has updated its guidelines for sport allowing players to take part in close-contact and competitive training in preparation for matches.
