No new coronavirus deaths announced in Liverpool hospitals

No new coronavirus deaths were recorded in Liverpool's hospitals today in a welcome reprieve for the badly hit city.

Deaths are typically lower at weekends and on bank holidays due to lag in reporting, but yesterday there were nine deaths in the city's hospitals.

There were, however, single deaths recorded at the trust running Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, taking its total to 135, and in Cheshire at the trust running Warrington and Halton hospitals, taking its total to 116.

No deaths were recorded at Arrowe Park Hospital in Wirral, which remained at 205, or at St Helens or Whiston Hospitals, which remained at 183.

The figures reflect deaths as they are recorded, rather than when they actually occurred.

As the figures reflect hospital deaths, the actual number of deaths due to coronavirus are expected to be higher.

We are also used to experiencing a lag in reporting immediately after weekends.

The total figures for Liverpool's NHS Trusts are:

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Royal Liverpool, Aintree and Broadgreen hospitals) - 408

The Walton Centre - 9

Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital - 17

Alder Hey Children's Hospital - 4 (all adult patients)

Mersey Care Mental Health Trust - 3
