Two teens appear in Wexford court on rape charge

Two teenage males have appeared at Wexford District Court today on a rape charge.

The pair, one aged 17 and the other aged 15, were before Judge Brian O'Shea after spending a week on remand at the juvenile detention centre in Oberstown.

The two boys are accused of raping a 17-year-old girl in Courtown in north Wexford last July.

The defendants, whose names may not be published or broadcast, were represented in court by solicitor Lana Doherty.

The court heard that the state solicitor required three weeks to complete the preparation of the book of evidence in the case.

Ms Doherty did not look for bail but suggested that the matter should be marked peremptory.

Judge O'Shea turned down this application, directing that the two teenagers remain in custody on remand, to appear in the District Court once more on 16 June.
