Higuain has been tipped to leave the Turin outfit at the end of the season, despite being a regular in Maurizio Sarri's side in Serie A this season.

There has been talk of a possible return to Argentina, but according to the Sunday Express, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers have their sights set on the Juventus striker.

Higuain bagged five goals in 18 appearances during his loan spell at Chelsea last season, but it seems he will be offered a second chance to redeem himself in the English top flight.

The Magpies are expected to welcome new wealthy owners in the coming days, and seemingly believe the 32-year-old fits the bill as a marquee signing for the 2020/21 season.

Wolves, meanwhile, could be in need of a new No. 9 should top goalscorer Raul Jimenez leave in the next transfer window, with Manchester United reportedly keen to sign him.

It remains to be seen if Higuain would prefer another move to an English club, but he did recently reveal that a return to Argentine giants River Plate could be on the cards.

"River are a club that gave me everything, from letting me develop to Real Madrid buying me, but right now I don't know what's going to happen. My head is here [in Turin]," he told TyC Sports.

"[Marcelo] Gallardo's team are very exciting, they have quality, strength, everything.

"The truth that you watch them and their number nine gets many chances. Clearly someone who played for River before will watch that team, see themselves there and say, 'How nice'.

"Gallardo has caught everyone's eyes and he's earned it. I'd think about going back to River to retire."
