The federal government has warned that any public officer found leaking official state documents will be sacked.

The government in a circular dated May 22, through the head of the civil service of the federation, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, said leaking of official state documents had become embarrassing to the government, The Sun reports.

The head of service described as irresponsible and reckless the unauthorised disclosure of official documents.

She pointed out that leaking of official documents is an act of serious misconduct, with a penalty of dismissal from service, as provided for in public service rules.

Yemi - Esan stated that any public officer caught leaking official documents will be severely dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the public service rules.

Meanwhile, the federal government has imposed a fine of N1 million on a United Kingdom aircraft impounded last week for undertaking illegal commercial operations in Nigeria during the COVID-19 lockdown.

This was disclosed by the minister of aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, via micro-blogging site, Twitter.

The impounded aircraft and detained crew of British operator, Flairjet, were found to have violated Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations.

Sirika, a trained pilot and former senator from Katsina state, said the maximum penalty for each of the infractions was N500,000, totalling N1 million.

In another report, President Muhammadu Buhari has challenged Nigerian farmers on the need to embark on massive productive agricultural activities this farming season as Nigeria has no money for food importation.

The president gave the challenge shortly after observing this year’s Eid prayer alongside members of his family and few presidential aides at the presidential villa, Abuja, on Sunday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Eid-El-Fitr prayer was observed in line with the protocol against mass gathering issued by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, while the protocol of social distancing was also exhibited during the two-raka’at prayer.
