Okinawa Oki100: First 100% 'desi' electric motorcycle to cost around Rs 1 lakh

by

GURUGRAM: Okinawa will launch 100% localized, first-electric motorcycle, Oki100 in the third quarter of the financial year 2020-21 at around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom), a top company official said on Monday.

The electric two-wheeler manufacturer claims that Oki100 will clock a top speed of 100 kmph.

In an exclusive conversation with TOI, Jeetender Sharma managing director, Okinawa said, "We will be entering the electric motorcycle segment with the Oki100 during the festive season. In a price-sensitive market, it's important to keep the price competitive."

Oki100, a possible Revolt RV400 challenger, will be priced around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom), confirmed Sharma. The bike’s prototype was showcased at Auto Expo 2018.

Agreeing with reports and studies, Sharma said the personal mobility is set to grow post-lockdown. "I'm sure this year it will be the rise of EVs. An increase in demand will push more and more vehicles to come. Based on running and capital costs, electric two-wheelers will be on the same page as BS6-compliant, internal combustion-engine powered ones," he added.
