NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE (NEWS 1130) — As of Monday, singers are allowed to perform again in “Music City”, and a country singer from Delta is among those who can take the stage again in Nashville.

The city has moved into Phase 2 of its reopening plan allowing small performances at restaurants and bars.

Kat Higgins — who is from North Delta and now writes songs in Nashville — says artists have been struggling without the ability to perform during the pandemic.

“They can’t really do much about it, but they also can’t tour and that’s their main source of income,” she explains.

Nashville’s new rules only allow for two performers to be on the stage at one time and dance floors will still be closed.

Higgins says the COVID-19 restrictions have been difficult for people like her.

“They’re definitely getting hit hard. The arts, I think, are really hurting because of it,” she says.

Higgins moved to Nashville in 2012.

She has written songs that were recorded by Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood.

Nashville clubs closed March 16 to curb the spread of COVID-19. At least a half-million of jobless residents in Tennessee have sought benefits during the pandemic.
