A notorious Glasgow gangster has been slashed on the face in prison.

Robert Daniel, 30, was attacked yesterday morning in HMP Barlinnie.

Thug Daniel, who was caged in January this year after being caught with a £16k stash of heroin and cocaine, is a member of the notorious Daniel family crime clan.

He was rushed to hospital on Sunday following the incident at the prison in Riddrie, near Glasgow.

Daniel, also known as Robert Lindsay, has a bleak past of criminal activity.

He was jailed for three years in 2012 for an appalling attack on 34-year-old gran Susanne Simpson outside the Cairn Bar in Glasgow.

He headbutted her then punched and kicked her as she lay on the ground.

In 2015 the violent thug was caught smuggling a phone into prison after posting a photo showing off his cushy life behind bars.

Daniel was pictured posing in a Chelsea top, with his cell at HMP Glenochil in Alloa looking more like a teenager’s bedroom. Family photographs were pinned to the wall and piles of DVDs and computer games were stacked up on a shelf.

In 2017, Daniel was injured in a car crash after fleeing from an unmarked police car.

He was speeding through the Possilpark area of Glasgow when he was spotted driving erratically, before crashing his Audi into a Ford Fiesta.

Daniel had to be cut free from the wreckage but is understood to have escaped with minor injuries.

Last year, six men were jailed for a total of 104 years after they attempted to murder Steven “Bonzo” Daniel and four other men.

The gang were said to be part of the Lyons crime clan – long-time enemies of the Daniel crew in the north of Glasgow.

On the attack on Daniel yesterday, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.20 am on Monday, 25 May, 2020, police were advised that a 30-year-old man had been injured after being attacked within HMP Barlinnie Prison, Lee Ave, Glasgow, around 10.05 am on Sunday, 24 May, 2020.

“Enquiries are continuing.

“The prisoner was treated at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and discharged back to the prison.

“Officers are following a positive line of enquiry.”
