Met Eireann forecast Ireland's hottest day of the year so far with warm weather here to stay

Wednesday will see temperatures jump to the mid 20s and Thursday is currently forecast to be the hottest

Thursday looks set to be the hottest day of the year so far with temperatures soaring as high as 25C in parts of Ireland.

Met Eireann is forecasting a scorching week, with temperatures above 20C lasting right into the Bank Holiday weekend.

Wednesday will see temperatures jump to the mid 20s and Thursday is currently forecast to be the hottest.

Monday has already started off gorgeous and other than some thundery downpours later in the week there'll be plenty of time for sunbathing.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Warm for the rest of the week with temperatures in the low to mid 20s inland, a little cooler on exposed coasts.

"Mainly dry on Wednesday and Thursday, but there will be some rain on Wednesday in northern coastal areas. Still a good deal of dry weather for Friday and weekend, but a little showery rain is likely in places.

"Current indications are for a good deal of dry weather overall at the weekend, but with some patchy rain or drizzle at times.

"Warm and humid, with temperatures in the low to mid 20s inland, but in the high teens in Atlantic coastal areas. Winds mostly light, north to northeast or variable."

Not all places will be blessed with soaring temperatures on Thursday but inland areas can expect the near 25C weather.

The forecaster added: "Very warm and dry, with sunny intervals. Maximum temperatures 20 to 24 or 25 Celsius, but a little cooler on exposed eastern and southern coasts, in moderate south to southeast breezes. 

"Dry in most areas overnight, but some rain and drizzle will develop in Connacht and west Munster."
