WATCH: African artists team up on new track to promote unity and remind you to 'Play Your Part'

25 May is Africa Day, and to celebrate the occasion, Brand SA teamed up with several artists to promote African unity with a special song.

The track, called Play Your Part - Africa Unite, is part of a campaign with the same name by the organisation.

According to a statement, the track "aims to highlight and foster African unity, and features a number of languages spoken on the continent, including Swahili, Lingala, Zulu, isiXhosa, seTswana, English, Afrikaans, Shona and French. This multi-lingual approach is inspired by the bold, vibrant, and resilient African print, which has once again come to the fore during the current Covid-19 pandemic."

Featured on the song are SA artists DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Rouge, Riky Rick, Dee Koala and Youngsta CPT, as well as Zimbabwean star Shasha, and Tresor who hails from the DRC.

In order to abide by social distancing laws, the music video for the track is filmed in the style of a video call, with each artist featured at their home.

"It [the song] begins by calling on young people to heed the call to stay home and adopt recommended measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, including regular hand washing, the wearing of face masks in public places, and social distancing. But also embedded within this is a message that reflects the triumphant African spirit: 'It's me and you together; we shall overcome'," the statement further explains.

The song will be available on all major streaming services from Monday 25 May. All proceeds from streaming and downloads will go towards the Solidarity Response Fund
