Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers has revealed how he struggled with anxiety after finding fame on the MTV show.

Aaron, now 32, left his job as a scaffolder behind to join the cast of the Newcastle-based programme in 2014 and quickly became the centre of the action thanks to an on/off romance with Marnie Simpson.

New dad Aaron, who recently welcomed son Romeo with Talia Oatway, stayed on Geordie Shore for four years and has more recently been back on MTV in spin-off show Geordie OGs, where viewers have seen him forge a successful career as a MMA fighter.

And he attributes his training to help overcome the anxiety that was brought on by being on Geordie Shore.

Talking about how it felt being shot into the limelight, he told The Sun : "I'd never really witnessed that before. Overnight having hundreds and thousands of people following us, giving us abuse.

"I'd be filming for six weeks, without a phone, drinking every night and drinking is not the best for mental health anyway. It was a vicious circle and my anxiety was getting the better of me.

"All we had was one day of media training. But that did not prepare us for the abuse I was going to get, it was constant and just a mad experience."

Aaron, who has been training with ex-marine brother Terry during lockdown, said that his MMA training and lifestyle overhaul has helped his mental health as when he's in the gym he can "be around people with the same mindset."

He added: "When my anxiety was that bad I would barely be able to leave the house to go shopping, let alone be walking down the ramp to the cage."
