Man charged after shop worker attacked with machete

A shop worker was hit with a machete while another man was sprayed in their face with a substance during an attack.

The shop worker, a man in his 30s, suffered a cut near his ear while the other man, aged in his 40s, was left uninjured, say police.

West Midlands Police have charged Mohammed Malik, of Shawbury Grove, Highgate, with wounding, possession of an offensive weapon and assault.

He was due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court today].

The incident took place in Somerville Road, Small Heath, on Saturday].

Police say members of the public helped detain a man after the attack outside Handa News, in Somerville Road, Small Heath, at around 5.45pm.
