The 22-year-old former SA Under-20 star is said to be in his last year of his contract with the Lions and believed to be unhappy at the lack of game time he was handed in this year's shortened Super Rugby campaign.

He has been linked to the Sharks, Bulls and Stormers, but a report in Afrikaans newspaper Rapport on Sunday indicated that he may opt for the Cape franchise.

The report states that Springboks and Stormers captain Siya Kolisi may have convinced Simelane to move to Cape Town.

The report stated that after chatting to Kolisi there is a 70% chance that Simelani will join the Stormers.

The Lions, meanwhile, also haven't given up hope of keeping the talented midfielder and Sport24 understands the Johannesburg franchise is in negotiations with the player.
