10 Premier League players you forgot had featured during the 2019-20 season

The start of the 2019-20 Premier League season seems a long time ago.

Back then, Unai Emery’s Arsenal were getting off the mark with a relatively simple win, while Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur had picked up a hard-fought opening day victory thanks to a big contribution from summer signing Tanguy Ndombele.

Also, Marco Silva was leading his Everton side to four points and two clean sheets from their opening two games.

Of course, all three have since departed.

But as well as managers who have since left the league, some of the players involved have also moved to pastures new.

However, some of those, we've since merely completely forgotten were ever actually involved this season at all.

Nacho Monreal

Before Emery let Monreal leave on the cheap, the defender played a full three games at the start of the season: wins over Newcastle United and Burnley, and a defeat at Liverpool.

Since then, he’s been a regular at Real Sociedad, who are much more likely than Arsenal to end the season with a Champions League place.

Javier Hernandez

Since leaving West Ham United, the Mexican has played for not one but two new clubs, Sevilla and LA Galaxy, so you can be forgiven for thinking he left longer ago.

The Mexican didn’t just play as cover for the then-injured Sebastien Haller - he even scored in a 1-1 draw with Brighton.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Mkhitaryan is only out on loan, the Armenian is keen to join Roma on a permanent deal after six goals in 13 Serie A appearances.

Somehow, he also found time to play several games for Arsenal this season, including a substitute appearance in September’s North London Derby.

Angelino has impressed enough at RB Leipzig to bring about talk of a permanent switch, so it’s weird to think he’s only been on loan there since January.

It’s also strange to think he’s played six Premier League games this season, including 90 minutes as Manchester City lost to neighbours United in December, and in a barely-there display against Liverpool at Anfield.

Marcos Rojo

On the subject of United, long-serving defender Rojo played a whole 121 minutes in the league this season.

He got 90 of those in a draw with Liverpool in October, which feels a very long time ago. He’s now on loan at Estudiantes, and may have played his last for United.

Ki Sung-Yueng

Back in September, Ki came on for Newcastle against Leicester City as the Magpies tried to deal with Isaac Hayden’s red card.

Leicester went on to win 5-0, and Ki’s third league game of the season was also his last, with his contract cancelled by mutual consent in January.

Jesus Vallejo

The ex-Spain Under-21 international captain joined Wolves on loan from Real Madrid last summer and was seen as something of a potential coup.

Instead, he was destroyed by Tammy Abraham as Wolves shipped five at home to Chelsea, played just 72 league minutes more and was sent packing in December, with Max Kilman - signed previously from Maidenhead - increasingly preferred by Nuno Espirito Santo.

Ashley Young

Club captain at the start of the season, Young had a run at Manchester United before moving to Inter Milan, not that any of the appearances feel all that memorable.

Curiously, United kept clean sheets in each of his last four games, in four different competitions.

Connor Wickham

Just the six games for Crystal Palace striker Wickham, to go with the six from last season, before his January loan to Sheffield Wednesday.

At least he has a goal in the Premier League to his name this season, a strike against Norwich which was his first in the competition since November 2016.

Ravel Morrison

Morrison is another currently out on loan in the Championship, having joined Middlesbrough in January.

There was a fair bit of curiosity when the former Ostersunds man moved to Sheffield United, and he did at least manage 12 league minutes in an August defeat to Leicester.
