Nigeria confirms 313 more COVID-19 cases, total infections now 7,839

- The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 313 new cases of COVID-19

- The cases were spread across 17 states including Lagos, Abuja; Rivers; Edo; Kano among others

- The country’s total infections have climbed 7,389 out of which 2,263 have been discharged with 226 losing their lives

Coronavirus cases in Nigeria have continued to increase with the confirmation of 313 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, May 24.

The new infections were announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on twitter.

The cases were spread across 17 states with Lagos recording 148 infections, Abuja 36; Rivers 27; Edo; and Kano 13.

Ogun had 12; Ebonyi ; Nasarawa 8; Delta 8; Oyo 7; Kaduna (5); Kwara (4); three each in Akwa Ibom 3and Bayelsa 3, Anambra 1.

Meanwhile, as states across Nigeria grapple with the deadly coronavirus, the Lagos government has discharged 45 Covid-19 patients from its isolation facilities. This brings the total number of discharged persons in Lagos to 707.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a statement on Saturday, May 23, disclosed that those discharged have fully recovered and tested negative to Covid-19.

The patients discharged comprise of 22 females and 23 males, all Nigerians. They are now free to join the society.

Giving a breakdown of the discharged patients, the governor said: "The patients; 19 from the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, 3 from Onikan, 8 from Agidingbi, 7 from Lekki, 1 from Eti-Osa (LandMark) and 7 from Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Isolation Centres were discharged having fully recovered and tested negative to COVID19.

Also, Lagos state is intensifying the distribution of face masks to residents in 57 LGAs/LCDAs. Popular Fuji musician, Pasuma and comedian Owen Gee supported the Maskup Lagos.

They shared the Lagos government's free face masks in the Ikeja and Mushin areas of the state.

This was disclosed in a tweet shared on the official Twitter handle of the Lagos state government.

The year 2020 has been a challenging one for countries all over the world due to the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

Still on health, the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA) has revealed that COVID-19 patients in the state are being treated like kings.

According says to Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, executive chairman of the agency, the state government spends N1,500 per single meal for COVID-19 patients on admission in the state,

He said the state governor, Bala Mohammad gave the directives in order to ensure that all the COVID-19 patients in the state were well fed.
