Police swarmed into a Derby street last night after a person was seen on the ground in a jitty, a witness says.

Officers and medics were seen in Uttoxeter Old Road in the city centre at around 10pm.

A local resident said a man was taken away in the back of a police van.

Police tape could be seen at the scene this morning.

Witness Chelsey Hooper said yesterday: “A police car has just driven off with a man in the back. There’s the Criminal Investigation Department and all sorts here.

“Armed response are here too.”

Ms Hooper said there was a person on the ground in the jitty and that an ambulance was at the scene.

She continued: “It doesn’t look good.

“I’m not sure what happened but it looked serious with so many police, armed police and the ambulance.”

Derbyshire police have been contacted for comment.
