Tesco announces two big changes to Clubcard scheme - and it's good news
by Emma Munbodh, https://www.facebook.com/EmmaMunbodhThousands of Tesco customers have been given an extra six months to use up their vouchers as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Britain's biggest grocer said vouchers that were due to expire on May 31, 2020, will now be valid until November 30, 2020.
The supermarket giant has also given shoppers more time to retrospectively add Clubcard points to their accounts.
The scheme, first introduced in 1995, allows members to collect one point for every £1 spent in-store and one point for every £2 spent on fuel.
Every 150 points collected is worth £1.50 to spend in-store or online, but can be worth up to three times as much when spent through Tesco's reward partners, which include Virgin Atlantic and Pizza Express.
However, due to the pandemic, many customers have been left unable to use their points - meaning they could be lost.
The good news is that they've now been extended, allowing customers extra time to claim them.
How to check if unused Clubcard vouchers are due to expire
If you are unsure about when your vouchers are due to expire, or you have lost track of what you have left to spend, you can check for unused Clubcard vouchers online or on the Tesco Clubcard app.
In both cases, you will need to log in and go to the "vouchers" section.
There, you'll be able to see your points, including how much you have to spend and when they're due to expire.
Any vouchers due to expire this month will now show up with an extended expiry date.
Vouchers with an extended expiry date can be used as normal with Tesco, online and in-store or with reward partners.
How to retrospectively add Clubcard points
If you have receipts with points to add to your account, you can now add them in stores, providing they fall within the March 23 to June 14 timeframe.
You'll need to present your receipts at a Tesco customer service desk - but you'll only be able to add up to two receipts per day.
It's hoped this measure will help those who missed out on points while self-isolating, social distancing or waiting for a replacement Clubcard.
If you've already converted Clubcard vouchers
If you have already converted your points into vouchers, you now have an extra 12 months to use them up.
Tesco said most reward partner codes will now be valid for 12 months from the original order date.
However, points converted to air miles with British Airways Avios and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club will not be included in the extension.
These points will remain valid for as long as your account remains active - this means collecting or redeeming at least one point over a period of 36 months.
I have lost my Clubcard vouchers - what should I do?
You can check what vouchers you have left to spend by logging into your Clubcard Account and going to the vouchers section.
All of your active Clubcard vouchers will be listed, along with the online codes you need to use when placing an order with a Reward Partner.
You also have the option to reprint your vouchers if you wish.
How long are my Clubcard vouchers normally valid for?
Vouchers are usually valid for two years - you won’t be able to use them once they’ve expired.
