THIS is the first picture of the man who died in an alleged Ardrossan shooting yesterday.

Paul Cairns, 42, was killed in the alleged firearms incident at a house in Nithsdale Road in the Ayrshire town at around 4.50am.

Armed cops and a force helicopter raced to the scene after the alarm was raised.

His partner Vicky Woods, 46, who is believed to have been in the house at the time of the alleged incident, was unhurt.

The 42-year-old suffered serious injuries in the alleged shooting and later died at the scene.

Cops confirmed this morning that a 42-year-old suspect has now been arrested.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 4.50am on Sunday, a 42-year-old man was found with serious injuries and died at the scene a short time later.

"A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of what happened."

Locals said Paul's partner Vicky lost her brother Gary to cancer last month.

One said: “She’s just gone through the trauma of a funeral for her brother and now this.”
