According to a recent report, Manchester United’s current wantaway youngster could be tipped to emulate former club legend Paul Scholes.

Manchester United’s rich history of promoting academy talent is steeped in tradition. Birthed by the genius mind of Sir Matt Busby and revolutionised under Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, the Red Devils’ academy is unmatched in England.

The plethora of stars who have come through the club’s ranks is wholly impressive, from Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, David Beckham and Paul Scholes to the likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay and Brandon Williams.

For years it seemed Ferguson’s Class of 92 could never be emulated, however the current batch of stars have already drawn comparisons with the aforementioned legends.

Angel Gomes who made his debut at just 16 years of age, all the way back in 2017 was regarded as the best crop of the bunch from the Rashford, Greenwood, McTominay and Williams quartet.

However, a recent report from Manchester Evening News has urged the 19 year old to remain at the club.

The report compares Angel Gomes to Paul Scholes who only started featuring in the club’s first team ‘prominently’ when he was 21, and also points to David Beckham who started playing regular first team football at 20.

The news outlet claims that the likes of Scholes and Beckham are proof that Angel Gomes still has time to establish himself at Old Trafford and that he should not be written off just yet.

Certainly, Angel Gomes is blessed with an impressive skillset and he has the ability to bamboozle defences with his low centre of gravity.

There has been hype around him in the club’s academy for some time.

In the current climate, with much uncertainty surrounding the transfer window ahead of the summer, Solskjaer might not be able to get the attacking midfielder he desires. That could pay dividends for Angel Gomes and it could be the youngster’s chance to shine, just like Beckham and Scholes did before him.

Do you think Angel Gomes can become a regular at Man United?
