Grimes and Elon Musk change son’s name from X Æ A-12 after law gets in the way

Grimes has revealed she’s changed the name of her son with Elon Musk, after initially raising eyebrows with the intriguing moniker of X Æ A-12 after welcoming her baby earlier this month.

Due to Californian law, you can’t register a name that contains numbers, so to circumvent that little issue, it appears they’ve switched out the numbers for Roman numerals.

Smart, that.

Addressing fans on her Instagram on Sunday night, Grimes, 32 – real name Claire Boucher – replied to one follower who asked: ‘Did you change the baby name because of Californian laws ? What is the baby’s new name?’

She wrote underneath: ‘X Æ A-Xii’.

Grimes wasn’t done dropping some intel into the new baby’s name – which is thought to be pronounced something along the lines of ‘X Ash Archangel’ –a though, as one follower chimed in: ‘Nice! Just removed the numbers to confirm to California law.’

She replied: ‘Roman numerals. Looks better tbh,’ while later adding: ‘One dash is allowed.’

According to California’s department of health office of vital records, a person can only be named using the 26 letters of the alphabet, which seemingly put a spanner in Grimes and Tesla boss Elon’s grand plans.

The singer previously broke down each part of the tot’s name to dispel the mounting mystery about the meaning.

In the days following the little one’s birthday, the singer tweeted: ‘X, the unknown variable. Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence).

‘A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent.’

The second A is named after Archangel, Grimes’ favourite song and 12 is the Chinese zodiac sign of the rat – 2020 is believed to be the year of the Metal Rat.

Elon addressed his babymama’s explanation, mansplaining somewhat as he replied: ‘SR-71, but yes.’

The internet went into meltdown when the pair confirmed the peculiar name, with even Gwyneth Paltrow chiming in, after raising eyebrows herself by naming her firstborn Apple.

After InStyle magazine shared a photo of Grimes and Elon on Instagram, alongside the caption: ‘#ElonMusk explained how to pronounce his and #grimes’ baby name, X Æ A-12’, Gwynny slid straight into the comments and joked: ‘#ChrisMartin I think we got beat for most controversial baby name.’

It really is the baby that brought the world together.
