Highway 4 closed near Port Alberni after vehicle hits power pole

by

A power pole was knocked down on Highway 4 this morning near Wattys Road just west of Port Alberni, closing both lanes.

The fire department was called about 7 a.m., said Port Alberni Fire Chief Mike Owens.

He said crews arrived to find a vehicle had gone into a power pole and broken it, leaving lines down around the vehicle and on the road.

“The occupants of the vehicle did the right thing and didn’t attempt to exit the vehicle,” Owens said.

B.C. Hydro got to the scene about 7:30 a.m. and made it safe for the occupants to get out, he said.

No information on injuries or the number of people in the vehicle was available.
