Bored crane operator laughs as he kills time by trolling man on ground below

A video of a crane operator using his time to troll a man on the ground below has split opinion after it was viewed millions of times on social media.

The two-minute clip shared on Twitter shows a man sunbathing on a small square of grass, with a crane and its load block casting a shadow over him.

The person operating the crane says: "I've put the shade in this geezer, look, he's looking up," before the man gathers up his belongings to move back into the sun.

As he pulls the towel to a new area, the man operating the crane patiently waits for him to get comfortable before slowing swinging the crane round to again put him in the shade.

He's left in hysterics as he gives commentary on the action on the radio, perfectly blocking out the light over the sunbather's face.

The video, which has more than 3.4 million views, was re-shared on Twitter with the caption: "Absolutely 100% can get behind this level of commitment to pettiness."

Some viewers lashed out at the crane operator, as one commented: "All who think this is funny. Grow up."

Another wrote: "Crane operator is clearly a complete a***hole. Why do people like this kind of behaviour?"

A third said: "There’s only one 'plonker' there and it’s not the one on the ground!"

However, others were able to find humour in the situation, as one argued: "I can’t actually believe there are people under here who don’t find this absolutely hilarious."

A second replied: "If I was the guy sunbathing I would find this hilarious, the simplicity of it. So much fun. You've got to see the enjoyment in it. It's an elite game of cat and mouse. I could be there on the ground for ages playing this game."

A third offered some constructive feedback, saying: "I liked how the operator waited until they'd got comfy then inched the shadow rather than rushed it. My only criticism, the operator should have lowered the mechanism on the cable a little so as to block the shade to below his face so he didn't notice."
