Covid-19: Ghaziabad administration seals border with Delhi, only essential services allowed

GHAZIABAD: In view of spurt in Covid-19 cases with travel history to Delhi, the Ghaziabad administration has decided to seal off its borders with the national capital effective immediately. Over 70 cases out of more than 220 in the district have been traced from Delhi.

Only essential services will now be allowed unhindered passage to Ghaziabad from Delhi, while passes will be required to get into Ghaziabad. However, the administration unlike during lockdown 2.0, has given some concessions to select commuters who will be required to produce identity cards before gaining entry into the districts.

Heavy vehicles and trucks carrying essential commodities like medicines and medical equipment, ambulances, vehicles on bank duty have been exempted completely from this.

Doctors, para-medical staff, police personnel, bank employees will be required to show their identity cards at the border. Similarly, secretary level officials with government of India will also be allowed to commute after verifying their credentials.

Third and fourth grade employees working with Delhi and central government offices where 33% attendance system is in place, they would be required to produce temporary passes to gain entry into Ghaziabad. Their identity cards alone would not be considered for the purpose.

Since office hours in Delhi is between 9am to 6pm the employees would have to ensure that they get to other side of the border in Delhi before 9am and while returning they will be allowed entry to Ghaziabad after 6pm only.

Media personnel and lawyers will be allowed to move in and out if they produce valid identity cards cards.

In case of emergency, residents willing to go to Delhi will have to apply for e-passes, which would be assessed by the administration before issuance.

Movement from hotspots will remain prohibited.
