If States Want UP’s Migrant Workers Back, They’ll Have To Seek Our Permission: UP CM Yogi Adityanath

by

Mincing no words, Uttar Pradesh (UP)'s Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath yesterday (24 May) asserted that any state which would want migrant workers from UP back will have to seek permission from the state government and ensure their socio-legal-monetary rights, reports Financial Express.

Disgruntled by the treatment meted out to the migrant workers from UP in the wake of nationwide lockdown, CM Adityanath said, "These workers are our biggest resource and we will give them employment in UP as the State Government is going to set up a commission for their employment."

The commission will look into sundry factors associated with the rights of migrant workers and act to prevent their exploitation. CM Adityanath stressed that insurance, social security, re-employment assistance, provision for unemployment allowance etcetera are some of the factors which will be looked into by the commission.

More than 23 lakh migrant workers have returned to UP from various parts of the country.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that CM Adityanath also shared that 75 per cent of such workers who have returned from Mumbai and 50 per cent of those who have returned from Delhi have tested positive for COVID-19.
