Gardai break up brawl in Cork city as videos of mass fight on residential street examined

A string of serious public order incidents have plagued the city and suburbs over the weekend

Gardai had respond to reports of several men involved in a brawl on a residential street In Cork city on Sunday night.

Two men were injured in what locals say was a serious brawl in the street in the north side of the city.

One man was taken to Cork University Hospital as a result, Cork Beo reports

A Garda spokesperson said; "Gardai are investigating an alleged assault which occurred on Liam Healy Rd, Cork on the 24th May at approximately 8:30 pm."

"Two males received non-serious injuries. One male was taken to Cork University Hospital."

"No arrests. Investigations are ongoing."

The latest, shocking public order incident followed a weekend that saw Gardai have to deal with incidents in Mount Oval in Douglas and in the Ballynoe Hill area of Cobh.

There were also reports of large numbers of youths gathering in parts of Ballincollig Regional Park, bringing music speakers and drink and congregating in open areas and parts of the nearby woods.

In Cobh, one teenager was arrested and another had to be taken to hospital after a series of incidents that disturbed the area into the early hours of Sunday morning.

Gardai had to make repeated visits to the area to break up large numbers of teenagers who had been congregating in open areas.

On several occasions, the teens simply dispersed on seeing the Gardai and then returned to the area once again after the officers had left.

One young man had to be treated by paramedics on the scene and was later taken to hospital after sustaining a serious hand injury while he was trying to scale a fence.

Another boy was arrested and taken to Cobh Garda station where his parents were called in to collect him.

Gardai are now expected to mount extra patrols in areas where there have been youths gathering in recent nights.
