I celebrate Africa day with a sickening feeling. There are gross elements of the African culture that make it seem as if it`s a crime to be born a woman. Especially issues that have to with the female genitalia. All coochie ain’t made equal. Some are tight, some ‘loose’, some have ‘footlong’ labia minora. Speaking of labia minora elongation… it’s a culture predominantly practised in Malawi, Zimbabwe and other African countries.
Labia Minora pulling (Kudhonza in Shona or ukudonsa in Ndebele) was one of those James Bond missions but without the proper brief. Young girls are inducted in ‘the hall’ of labia minora elongation between the ages of 10 year-13years. It`s a continuous process.
Having learnt at a Catholic school and it’s a topic that was never up for discussion. But somehow there was always that girl that would continuously do it in the privacy of her blankets
You had to do it in the morning and when you were having a bath or shower. The reasons were always vague men love this, they are good for marriage. I had more questions than answers.
At what stage in my life was I going to flaunt this elongated minora? At 14 years, 15 years or when I was old dusty and full of cobwebs?
You were just instructed to pull the stuff no specifics measurements. At some point, one had to show them to an adult who was supervising the process so that they determine if they were long enough.
How long were they supposed to be? Two (2) inches, five (5 )centimetres, ten (10) metres! It was a ritual you had to do diligently, without questioning the teacher. Was I supposed to pull them until they were skipping rope long, thump long or…? You can imagine the confusion.
Fast forward to adulthood…Some men though vaguely familiar with the practice, shun it.
Then there are the bulk of the guys who are clueless.
They talk about them, but when confronted by a beholder of these supposed ‘crown jewels’, it’s a maze- a serious puzzle. And then you ask yourself was it worth it going through bottles of those itchy concoctions just to flaunt it to a confused son of ‘Adam’?
There are the select few who profess that labia minora elongation is the best thing that has ever happened. To some, they serve a functional difference. They sort of smoother the dic_k in a nice way.
So according to Professor grandma or aunty when the penis gets inside they help in holding it tightly and increasing sensation so making se_x more pleasurable. She omitted the fact that at times the woman also enjoys
BUT, the labia minora pulling movement is an archaic practise that has been heavily criticised and classified as a human rights violation. You are programmed at a young age with ‘a se_x is for pleasing man’ software at a young age.
This is where abuse and debasing begins, all in the name of pleasing and satisfying a man at the expense of one’s needs.
A culture that condones grooming and nurturing young girls to treat themselves as second class citizens or ragged doormats. Labia minora elongation perpetuates the practice of ‘othering’ and self-hate.
The process involves defacing one’s genitalia all in the name of injecting that extreme thrill during se_x. Young girls are groomed to put men’s needs before theirs.
It’s an archaic dehumanising practise that no woman should go through. Normal/long labia minora sex is about physical attraction -that undeniable electric chemistry.
Once a woman is not emotionally and psychologically there no matter the size of the labia minora orgasm is not guaranteed. Explosive great se_x is all in the mind.
Girls should not let culture dictate or be led blindly into it. One should have that freedom of choice and be empowered to decide when they are 18 years.
People are supposed to maintain a progressive culture and to forge a unique identity. But this is one element of ‘African’ culture that needs to be buried with the ancestors. As rightfully pointed out in the web series Our Pulling stories
“We were born women, not by choice but by nature. Yet, the only offence we ever committed is being born a woman. This is an awkward culture; it brings us back to the medieval ages….culture is not static.
We can’t keep preserving some cultures not consistent with this time. More so, human beings create a culture and not otherwise.”
Until men get tattoos bearing their full names on their ba_lls, only then can labia minora pulling be acceptable!!
