Kanini Kega Speaks on DP Ruto Impeachment Motion [VIDEO]

Kieni MP Kanini Kega on Monday, May 25, issued a statement regarding tabling a motion to impeaching Deputy President William Ruto after a document detailing the motion went viral across various media platforms.

"It is very fertile imagination and I want to say that for us in Jubilee, we are focused on helping the president achieve his Big 4 Agenda and I don't think impeaching the DP is part of the Big 4 Agenda.

"Even from the look of it, its fake. Before a motion is tabled on the floor of the House or given notice, the House Business Committee seats and approves motions so any person trying to purport that it was done by me, it seems far fetched," he stated.

The legislator pointed out that the entire saga regarding him sponsoring a motion to impeach the deputy president emanated from statements made by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.

"Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria made that wild allegation, that I have a motion to impeach the DP. I think this is a scheme to try and whip public emotion and gain some sympathy.

"I want to say in no uncertain terms that we have no motion to impeach the DP and we have no intention to do the same either," he asserted.

The Kieni MP maintained that they were fully focused on working alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure that he delivered on his various projects before the end of his second term. 

Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny was also present at Kanini's press briefing which took place at the Kieni MP's office.

The vocal legislator argued that DP Ruto's allies were just trying to clutch at straws by circulating fake documents and stories across social media platforms to garner some sympathy by playing 'victim'.

"Saying we are scheming to oust some people from their positions doesn't make sense, maybe they have already planned their own impeachment.

"We have no business in such matters as we are focused on very important matters raised by the president and looking into how we can help him deliver on his promise to Kenyans," Kutuny stated. 

National Assembly Clerk Michael Sialai, has since issued a statement terming the document as fake and urged Kenyans to disregard it.

"I wish to inform the members of the public that the document is fake and therefore has not been published by the National Assembly of the Republic of Kenya," reads an excerpt of the statement.

The fake document detailing DP Ruto's impeachment itemised various violations warranting his removal, one of which was his alleged absence from mandatory sittings.

"The Deputy President has abdicated duty under Article 240(3) of the Constitution and section 4(1) of the National Security Council Act, No. 23 of 2012 by constantly absenting himself from the sittings of the National Security Council," the fake motion reads in part.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his relationship with President Uhuru was also tabled as a reason for DP Ruto's impeachment, with his public utterances regarding Raila stated as intentional sabotage.

The fake motion is the latest saga surrounding the deputy president, with his close allies axed from powerful positions in the Senate.
