Busy week after Wolverhampton Council reopens tip

Recycling bosses have reported a busy week following the official reopening of one of the city’s major tips for the first time since the coronavirus lockdown was implemented.

Wolverhampton Council’s tip in Anchor Lane, Lanesfield, saw queues of vehicles turning up as families sought to get rid of large amounts of household waste accumulated over the last few months.

Serving Bilston and the surrounding area, the site is one of the city’s most widely-used recycling centres.

The council’s cabinet member for city environment, Councillor Steve Evans said: “We’d like to thank residents for their co-operation, patience and for keeping to the strict social distancing arrangements.

“Clear signage throughout the site, together with clear communication has worked well to ensure the site reopened as safely as possible.

“Over the reopening weekend, 828 vehicles passed through the gate.

“Unfortunately we had to turn away a small number of residents for reasons including no ID to show they’re a Wolverhampton or Dudley resident – a household bill and photo ID are needed.

“Also, attempting to enter the site in a van or with a trailer, and using the site for trade waste.

“We’re urging residents only to make essential trips to the house waste and recycling centres which means taking items that cannot be safely stored at your home.

“We also ask residents to check our website before making the journey. It includes helpful information, videos, maps and FAQs."
