Killing Eve song just reminded everyone how smart Taylor Swift really is
by Courtney Pochin, https://www.facebook.com/courtneypochinmirror/?modal=admin_todo_tourIn August 2017, Taylor Swift released the lead single from her sixth album, Reputation.
The song, called Look What You Made Me Do, was an instant hit - and so so so different from anything the singer had done before.
A cover of the track has now been featured on the TV show, Killing Eve, starring Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh, playing over the titles in the latest episode of season three.
Swift shared a clip of the cover on social media this morning (May 25), writing: "VERY STOKED about this cover of lwymmd on @KillingEve by Jack Leopards & The Dolphin Club!!"
But who exactly is this band and what have they got to do with Taylor Swift?
Buckle up my friends, we're about to go down the rabbit hole.
If you've been following Taylor Swift's career, at this point you'll know that the star's back catalogue of work, including LWYMMD was bought last year by Scooter Braun.
The controversial deal included the albums Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989 and Reputation.
The 30-year-old was devastated not to have had the chance to buy her life's work and described Braun's purchase of it as her "worst case scenario".
However, she is able to start re-recording some of her songs as of November 2020 - but it seems she may have found a loophole to be able to get her track on the BBC show and avoid putting any money into Braun's pockets.
And the whole thing is just a reminder of how smart she really is.
A quick look on Apple Music or Spotify will show you that the cover song is Jack Leopards & The Dolphin Club's only song and it appears the band didn't exist before now.
An even closer look at the track listing will reveal that the cover song was produced by Jack Antonoff and Nils Sjöberg.
Jack Antonoff helped Swift write LWYMMD in the first place, along with Fred Fairbrass, Richard Fairbrass and Rob Manzoli. He also had a major hand in helping produce Swift's latest album, Lover.
Nils Sjöberg meanwhile just so happens to be the pseudonym Swift used as a credit on the Calvin Harris and Rihanna song, This Is What You Came For - and it also featured in the Look What You Made Me Do music video.
So it looks like Swift was able to have a hand in producing a new version of her song - but without technically breaking the rules.
But wait... there's more!
Fans on social media have done a deep dive and discovered that the image used as the artwork for the Jack Leopards & The Dolphin Club version, appears to be an edited photo of Swift's younger brother, Austin, when he was a child.
And according to MailOnline Swift has previously spoken to Killing Eve's creator, Phoebe Waller-Bridge about her sibling featuring on the soundtrack.
Understandably this has caused many to believe that it's Austin's singing voice used on the haunting song.
Nothing has officially been confirmed as of yet, but Swift took to Tumblr this morning to like several posts about fans "connecting the dots" and "figuring it out".
Many have also posted to praise her for being a "genius" and "sneaky".
One person wrote: "This band literally didn't exist until today, TAYLOR SWIFT STRIKES AGAIN."
Another said: "Nils Sjoberg (Taylor’s songwriting pseudonym) is listed on the LWYMMD cover’s credit. She’s using the pseudonym again to get around her music being hijacked from her. Taylor Swift will not be silenced and I love it."
A third commented: "I JUST FOUND THE ORIGINAL PICTURE OF AUSTIN ON FACEBOOK .... I KNEW IT @taylorswift13 YOU SNEAKY SNAKE."
Someone else added: "You can always count on Taylor Swift to outsmart anyone in her way."
"Taylor made up a whole band called Jack Leopards and The Dolphin club consisting of herself, Austin Swift and Jack Antonoff to cover LWYMMD which is sung by Austin, partly produced by Taylor herself to not let Scooter gain a single cent from the it? TAYLOR SWIFT IS A GENIUS," a fifth proclaimed.
